Educators virtually everywhere have long looked to the emerging technologies of their time to improve the delivery of instruction in the classroom and to help them reach students in remote locations. in early days of technology use, the focus was on the delivery of direct instruction for example radio, interactive radio, instructional television. instructional technologies widely used for this purpose in low-income countries include the use of programmed instruction, the distribution of lesson on audiotape, the use of duplicating and photocopy machines to prepare learning aids, and television broadcasts of lessons at times that coincide with the school teaching schedule.
Newer technology-based instruction strategies, incorporating the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW),are used more to expand communication and increase access to resources. Online resources are used within education system primarily in seven ways
1. direct instruction
2. Find and access resource materials
3. access curriculum and instruction guides
4. find and retrieve information.
5. connect two or more classrooms.
6. lesson broadcast to multiple classrooms
7. in-service teacher education.
Because of limitations of infrastructure and finances, some developing countries face four main problem in using this newer technologies.
1. Access is expensive.
2. Ensuring equity of access is difficult
3. Retraining teachers to use the new technology is complicated and costly.
4. Inappropriate content poses a problem.
